R.A Jones Granted Seven New Patents
R.A Jones was granted seven new patents so far in 2026 alone, adding a flurry of innovations to the over 200 patents within our portfolio of machines and brands.
Five of the seven patents are series of interconnected technologies designed for the reliable and efficient forming of specially shaped cartons. By engineering a process that actively shapes cartons around their products with excellent control, we’ve enabled manufacturers to expand beyond rectangular cartons. This opens the door to more distinctive and aesthetic packaging while also reducing the material content of each package.
Another recently granted patent builds on the technology of our iFTS (Intelligent Flexible Transfer System) to provide greater flexibility and control when transferring pouches into cartons. This technology utilizes an electromagnetic movement system to reorient pouches without manual intervention. This enables automatic alternating collation, providing improved presentation within a tighter carton size and an easy-to-integrate linear motor design.
The seventh patent recently granted tackles package and product consistency in case packing. With this verification technology, cases are checked against specific quality requirements before product loading, automatically removing defective cases from the packaging process. Utilizing this quality control process ensures optimal package integrity and reliability while minimizing product damage and waste.
Disrupting the path to lead the way
Throughout our 120+ year long history, we’ve continuously brought original industry-leading technology to manufacturers across sectors, with inventions designed to optimize OEE, improve operator safety, and do what no one else has done before.
Orbi-Trak®, one of our most groundbreaking patented technologies, changed the landscape of carton packaging production from the 80’s onwards. Enabling reliable high-speed operation, Orbi-Trak® challenged the packaging machinery industry worldwide by setting a new benchmark for high speeds and reliability.
The 80’s and 90’s also saw breakthroughs in our patents for pouching applications. Our original volume-increase technology provided greater dosing control, increasing the amount of product deposited without increasing pouch sizes. This also maintained accurate filling without losing speed for even hard-to-handle products.
Our Direct-Drop Knife technology further skyrocketed precision, efficiency, flexibility and speed in pouching production, allowing us to create the ultra-high-speed Pouch King® machine trusted worldwide today.
Dedicated to continuous innovation
More recent years have brought dozens of new patented technologies, such as our low-level carton magazine. Now standard on all of our cartoners, this ergonomically enhanced design has brought industry-wide advancements in prioritizing long-term operator safety.
Another recent patent is our Flexi-Trak® technology, demonstrated at this year’s Interpack International on the Celestion® MTX. With 3-in-1 capabilities for transferring, collating, and grouping products, Flexi-Trak® is designed to provide greater flexibility for a wide range of product and package types.
The patent for our Automated Magazine Loader (AML) was granted in July 2025. The AML provides continuous robotic carton loading, reducing operator strain and freeing labor resources for higher-level tasks.
This list is about to grow longer; two more patents are scheduled to be granted in July of this year. Our many patents such as the ones above showcase a legacy of innovation, with our first patent dating from over a century ago and many more throughout our history.
From groundbreaking historical inventions to modern-day breakthroughs, we are committed to engineering advancements designed to give our customers a competitive edge.
