From installation to production in one day: the GreenSeed case
When contract packager GreenSeed External Manufacturing secured a high-profile bag-in-box project for a global food brand, the company faced a pivotal moment. The contract demanded a dedicated, high-capacity line capable of meeting rigorous performance standards within a limited facility footprint and a tight timeline.
To turn this challenge into a competitive advantage, GreenSeed sought a partner capable of delivering a flexible, long-term solution. The search led them to R.A Jones.
A partnership built on proven reliability
The decision to partner with R.A Jones was driven by our 120-year reputation for engineering excellence and the global resources of Coesia Group, our parent company. As a global leader in primary and secondary packaging machinery, we offer a broad portfolio of technologies serving brands across the food, beverage, home care, personal care, and pharmaceutical industries.
Having previously worked with R.A Jones, GreenSeed was already familiar with our machinery’s performance and reliability. This led them to select our new Alterion CL-170 for this project. Combining affordability with adaptability, the Alterion is particularly suitable for co-packers and smaller production environments seeking a high return on investment and long-term flexibility.
How we took them from challenge to execution
The path to success was defined by GreenSeed’s need for a reliable and scalable packaging solution, which pushed the company beyond the limits of its existing equipment. A strategic investment in a dedicated packaging line became necessary to navigate several key challenges:
- Competitive differentiation in a crowded market, through advanced and reliable technology.
- Spatial efficiency, by adopting a medium-speed solution fitting a constrained footprint.
- Accelerated implementation, from initial consultation to full operation by year-end.
At this stage, R.A Jones’s expertise proved critical. The Alterion CL-170 quickly demonstrated its value, transitioning from delivery to full production on the very same day as installation. This rapid integration was the result of a short three-month build cycle, transforming a complex integration into a seamless operational success.
Proven performance from day one
Since its installation in December 2025, the Alterion CL-170 has delivered immediate and measurable results for GreenSeed. The system has recorded zero downtime, and its advanced loading technology ensures consistent precision, enabling accurate handling across multiple carton formats.
This reliable operation and consistent output quality is driven by several key features:
- Reliable carton loading, thanks to servo-driven barrel loaders with overload protection and adjustable U-shaped buckets.
- Maximized uptime: the rotary carton feed is complemented by missing and L-shaped carton detection to prevent unexpected stops.
- Ergonomic Design, featuring a 7.5-foot loading area for easy manual intervention and seamless product transitions.
- Quick and repeatable changeovers in carton depth and length with single-point handwheel adjustments and servo-driven transport lugs.
The Alterion CL-170 also enabled GreenSeed to streamline operations by consolidating two production lines into a single, reliable cartoning system.
Performance has been optimized to align with GreenSeed’s unique requirements, with the machine running at 120 cpm, balancing speed and overall efficiency. At the same time, the transition to automated loading has driven a significant improvement in labor allocation, allowing operators to shift from manual tasks to higher-value activities across the line.
A positive outcome for an encouraging future
Beyond the immediate success of the project, the Alterion CL-170 represents a strategic, long-term investment for GreenSeed. Its flexibility allows it to handle a wide range of applications, ensuring continued value and a high return on investment.
The partnership has provided GreenSeed with a blueprint for its broader operational goals, and the company is now looking to R.A Jones to help automate its remaining manual production lines. By combining affordability, flexibility, and reliability, R.A Jones has empowered GreenSeed to stay ahead of the curve through 2026 and beyond.
